Chapter 306: The Secret From Six Years Ago
"What's wrong?" Leng Ruoli noticed the difficulty on Jiang Muye's face and felt puzzled.
He saw her confusion clearly. Afraid she would overthink it, he lightly flicked her on the forehead.
It didn't hurt, but Leng Ruoli reflexively covered her head.
"I grew up in a water town, so of course I'm a good swimmer! Have you ever seen a duck that couldn't swim?" Jiang Muye put on a cheerful look.
Actually, there was something that puzzled even him.
That was right, he was a kid from the Jiangnan water towns.
He had to be a good swimmer.
In his memory, he had often gone swimming without any fear.
But at some point in time, his parents seemed to have forbidden him from swimming, and had even canceled his swimming lessons back in middle school.
This was something Jiang Muye couldn't quite figure out. It seemed he'd have to ask his parents properly once he got back.
"I'm so jealous of you. My swimming has never been any good," Leng Ruoli mumbled.
"It doesn't matter if you're not good. I can teach you anyway."
"What if I can't learn it?" Leng Ruoli asked Jiang Muye.
Jiang Muye leaned against Leng Ruoli's shoulder and said seriously, "Then you don't learn it. I'm a good swimmer anyway, so I can save you."
After hearing Jiang Muye's words, Leng Ruoli's heart felt warm and fuzzy.
She leaned in and kissed Jiang Muye on the cheek, murmuring, "Thank you."
Jiang Muye smiled happily. He ruffled Leng Ruoli's little head affectionately and said, "We're a couple. What exactly do you want to say thank you for?"
Leng Ruoli's eyes were dazzlingly bright. "That's true."
Seeing that the awning boat was about to reach the shore, Leng Ruoli's movement to stand up made the boat lurch, and Jiang Muye steadied her just in time.
Only then did Leng Ruoli avoid falling into the water. She threw herself into Jiang Muye's strong, powerful chest, and heard his restless heart pounding violently. Her little face turned red to the extreme.
Jiang Muye gently held her butterfly shoulder blades and warned, "Don't be so impatient. Be careful, or you really will fall into the water."
But Leng Ruoli's lips were full of smiles. "It's fine if I fall in. You'll jump in to save me anyway."
"Alright, so you really do want to fall in?" Jiang Muye pressed close to Leng Ruoli's ear and murmured softly, "Even if you want to take a lovebird bath, that's not how you do it."
Leng Ruoli's little face flushed bright red. "Who wants to take a lovebird bath with you!"
Jiang Muye laughed out loud. "If you don't want to take a lovebird bath with me, then who do you want to take one with?"
His teasing left Leng Ruoli speechless. She held up her pretty, flushed little face and turned slightly away so she wouldn't have to look at Jiang Muye's mischievous expression.
Jiang Muye looked at Leng Ruoli's delicate, rosy little face and comfortably wrapped his arm around her waist to keep her from being tossed about on the boat and really falling into the water later.
After they reached the shore, Jiang Muye's System began to remind him: 【Congratulations, Host, for securing the South End Center. You have obtained three hundred Grit Points.】
The South End Center was a rather flourishing spot in A City, with an especially large flow of people. The snacks there were beyond count in particular.
At a glance, the people walking along the river channel were as dense as ants.
Jiang Muye clasped Leng Ruoli's fair, pretty fingers tightly and warned, "You have to follow me closely. Whatever you do, don't get lost, or I'll have to come fish out a little muddlehead like you."
Leng Ruoli's red lips mumbled, "How am I a muddlehead."
"You're still not a muddlehead?" Jiang Muye teased with a laugh. "You even got hit on the head by a book from the bookshelf before."
Having her embarrassing story brought up made Leng Ruoli's little face turn red to the extreme.
Leng Ruoli hugged Jiang Muye's waist from behind, pressing her little face against his back, her body swaying as she acted spoiled. "Those were all exceptions."
"Good, good, good. All exceptions." Jiang Muye brushed Leng Ruoli's long hair and said with a smile, "Then follow me properly, and whatever you do, don't grab the wrong person. Don't go grabbing some other boy's hand later and mistake him for me."
"You can't mistake anyone else for me either," Leng Ruoli instructed.
"Don't worry about that. Just based on this tender little hand of yours, I won't mistake it." Jiang Muye lifted Leng Ruoli's hand and kissed it by his lips.
Leng Ruoli smiled so sweetly she was like a peach at its ripest. She followed Jiang Muye as they wove through the sea of people.
There were a lot of people, but Jiang Muye thoughtfully shielded Leng Ruoli with his body, and Leng Ruoli nestled in his embrace like a delicate little bird.
Even though the crowds around them were packed, none of it had anything to do with Leng Ruoli.
Jiang Muye held up a patch of sky for her. No matter how noisy the surroundings were, they couldn't crush her.
She gazed up admiringly at Jiang Muye, who brought her such a strong sense of security.
He looked at Leng Ruoli with burning eyes. Seeing the lovely, pretty Leng Ruoli, he could not help but lower his face amid the sea of people and kiss her red lips.
He kissed Leng Ruoli until she was short of breath, her skin flushed tender red to the extreme, and Jiang Muye was reluctant to let her go.
"This Achuan Breakfast Shop, I loved eating here when I was little. Come on, let's go in." Jiang Muye led Leng Ruoli and walked in as if he owned the place.
【Congratulations, Host, for successfully checking in at the breakfast shop. You have obtained three hundred Grit Points.】 The System began to remind Jiang Muye.
After claiming the reward notification, Jiang Muye and Leng Ruoli looked around the room to see if there were any other seats.
There were especially many people right now. It was still the breakfast rush hour.
After looking around, Jiang Muye spotted a seat with his sharp eyes and called out to Leng Ruoli, "Come, over here."
Jiang Muye led Leng Ruoli over, and the two of them sat down at the seat.
"Do you want to try the soy milk here? It's so good, especially rich and fragrant." Jiang Muye pitched it to Leng Ruoli. "It's freshly ground soy milk, the liquid is so thick, with a soybean fragrance."
"Okay." Leng Ruoli felt a bit tempted.
"Salty soy milk or sweet soy milk?" Jiang Muye asked.
"There's salty soy milk too?" Leng Ruoli was a bit surprised. She had only ever had sweet soy milk.
"Yeah, salty soy milk is a specialty around here. It's really delicious." Jiang Muye recommended it enthusiastically. "Don't worry, it's not douzhi. I won't trick you."
Leng Ruoli was persuaded and nodded repeatedly. "Then give me a salty soy milk."
Jiang Muye called out to the busy proprietress, "Auntie Qi, two salty soy milks and two fried dough sticks!"
The proprietress nodded with a smile. "Coming right up."
Soon the proprietress brought over two bowls of soy milk.
A steamy heat filled the air, and the soybean fragrance spread freely. The milky-yellow liquid in the steel porcelain bowls looked very thick, sprinkled with soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped scallions, then stirred even. The grainy liquid made it look pure and authentic.
Not to mention Leng Ruoli, even Jiang Muye had saliva secreting in his mouth.
The proprietress said to Jiang Muye with a smile, "Little Jiang, it really feels like just yesterday. You've grown up, and now you've even brought your wife back. You really have some ability. I even saw you on the news before. I watched you grow up, and even back then I felt this child definitely had some ability."
Faced with the proprietress's praise, even the usually thick-skinned Jiang Muye felt a bit embarrassed. "Auntie Qi, don't praise me like that."
Who would have thought the proprietress's next move would refresh Jiang Muye's understanding even more.
She actually…
