Chapter 392: Reconciliation
Rejected 99 Times, the Aloof Campus Belle Comes On Strong
Boss Cutie
Just as Jiang Muye was wondering what was going on, the countdown numbers had already begun to scroll across the electronic screen.
【10…】
【9…】
【8…】
【7…】
【6…】
The entire crowd shouted along with it.
Jiang Muye got swept up in it too, silently calling out the numbers.
Right in the midst of that heart-pounding moment, his phone rang.
He answered it, slightly tipsy.
It turned out to be a video call.
"Jiang Muye!" A familiar voice rang out.
Jiang Muye's eyes flew wide with shock.
He saw Leng Ruoli holding a glow stick. Her delicate, beautiful face fell into his eyes through the phone screen.
"5! 4! 3! 2! 1!" Leng Ruoli shouted with a smile, landing exactly in sync with the electronic screen.
Jiang Muye just blinked.
How come her background looked so familiar?
"Happy New Year!" Her eyes curved, gorgeous and gentle like cherry blossoms, "And now, turn around and look."
Jiang Muye's nerves pulled taut.
He seemed to hear footsteps, and as if he'd sensed it coming, he turned around.
And in that one second, he saw her—the girl standing amid the sea of people.
Her brown curly hair spilled over her shoulders, and her pretty face was full of tenderness in the fading light of the sparkler in her hand. Yet her eyes still clung to that gorgeous beauty.
Jiang Muye's nose stung all at once.
His mind went blank as he watched her walk toward him, one step at a time.
Suddenly, he felt so lucky to have her.
"Why are you here?" he asked numbly.
"I'm here to ring in the New Year with you. Leng Ruoli will never leave you behind."
Jiang Muye shot back in spite, "Stop lying to me. You two kissed behind my back, and who knows, maybe you did even worse!"
He loved her, but he couldn't get past her cheating.
Leng Ruoli was taken aback. "Kissed? What are you talking about!"
"You and him—you didn't?" Jiang Muye was stunned.
"Right." Leng Ruoli nodded. "I have no idea why you'd think I kissed Yu Xi?"
"Fuck, I got played. Yu Xi told me that!" Realization struck Jiang Muye.
Leng Ruoli sorted out the threads of it, then said, "No wonder." She raised her eyes to look at him. "So you thought I kissed him, and that's why you weren't talking to me?"
"That's only one of the reasons." Jiang Muye stared at her intently. "I hate you being tangled up with Yu Xi, and I don't like that you kept it hidden for so long before telling me."
"I… I never knew how to bring it up before," Leng Ruoli said, lowering her eyelids. "Actually, Yu Xi is my lifesaver."
When Leng Ruoli told Jiang Muye about how Yu Xi had saved her, Jiang Muye was dumbfounded. "So you mistook the person?"
Because of one mix-up, she'd gone looking for the wrong man to repay?
"Yes."
"After you broke up, were you planning to be with Yu Xi?" Jiang Muye glared at her, a bit angry.
"No." Leng Ruoli said clearly and plainly, "From the very beginning, I only wanted to make it up to Yu Xi in other ways. I treated you as the one I owed a debt to, and that in itself was unfair to you. I was afraid you couldn't accept it, or that it would deepen your disgust for me, so I planned to leave and live abroad."
"Then why didn't you go?" His throat went dry.
"Because of you." Leng Ruoli took a deep breath. "In the end, I still couldn't leave you."
And there, before everyone's eyes, she pulled a property deed out of her pocket.
"This is my wedding house. My name is on it, and it's still missing one name." Leng Ruoli's eyes were wet, but she was still smiling. "Mr. Jiang Muye, are you willing to add your name to it? But you should know first, it's buy one get one free—I'll throw in a marriage certificate for you."
"No." Jiang Muye said it flat out.
Everyone around them was stunned.
This girl was so devoted, chasing him all the way here—you could say her sincerity was complete.
Who proposes with a marriage certificate! What guy would turn that down, especially when the other party was such a lovely, adorable girl!
Leng Ruoli's face fell with a bit of disappointment, though it was also what she'd expected.
After all, he was still angry. It was understandable.
She nodded. "Then I still won't give up. If one isn't enough, then ten. If it's not the number of books, then it's the number of days. Anyway, I plan to stay single forever—unless I'm with you."
After Leng Ruoli's bold declaration, Jiang Muye stepped forward.
Leng Ruoli thought he was going to walk away like he had in the past, but instead he put his hand on the back of her head and pulled her into his arms.
It was completely beyond Leng Ruoli's expectations.
Leng Ruoli breathed in his warmth, feeling like she was dreaming.
Jiang Muye was hugging her? Really?
"You dummy, don't you know the man is supposed to give the wedding house? You give me a wedding house—are you planning to marry me into your family!" Jiang Muye scolded her.
He knew he had already lost.
Whenever he faced Leng Ruoli, he couldn't control his racing heart.
Once she appeared, other girls became mere backdrop, unable to play the lead in his world.
Yet Leng Ruoli, hearing his scolding, hugged him back, her heart sweet.
Jiang Muye caught her pleasant fragrance, and his mood lifted quite a bit.
That long-lost feeling rushed over him. It was so good.
Jiang Muye pulled her petite body a little closer.
When the three Beast Roommates and their girlfriends caught up and found Jiang Muye and Leng Ruoli in each other's arms, they were absolutely shocked.
But it was also within expectations.
After all, how much Jiang Muye liked Leng Ruoli was obvious—he'd just been holding himself back all this time.
Kai looked at Little White Dove. "Your mouth has been gilded with gold, hasn't it? How is it so accurate?"
Little White Dove laughed. A bit embarrassed, he said, "I didn't know either, but Muzi's definitely giving me a red envelope."
Suya pinched Little White Dove's cheeks. "Save it, stop flattering yourself."
The atmosphere at the scene was warm and harmonious.
While Jiang Muye and Leng Ruoli were still deep in their sweet affection, Little White Dove egged them on. "Come on, this is a great day—we've got to go sing karaoke all night~"
"Who's spending all night with you lot? New Year's Eve should be spent by two people together." Jiang Muye raised an eyebrow, then wrapped his arm around Leng Ruoli's shoulders, his tone matter-of-fact.
As a result, a wave of jeering broke out.
"Tsk tsk tsk, you really do forget your friends the moment you see a pretty face~!" Little White Dove clicked his tongue.
"Who says it isn't so! Too much, too much!" Old He gestured with his hands.
Even Kai looked at Jiang Muye with a helpless expression.
Leng Ruoli's cheeks were flushed bright pink. She had never imagined Jiang Muye would say it so bluntly.
"Alright, we're off." Jiang Muye laughed it off and, rubbing Leng Ruoli's shoulder, headed back.
The crowd was dense, so to keep her from getting jostled, Jiang Muye shielded Leng Ruoli from being bumped into.
Leng Ruoli's eyelashes fluttered slightly, and those affectionate eyes gazed at him with deep feeling, like a little puppy's.
It made Jiang Muye a bit embarrassed.
"What are you looking at me like that for?" Jiang Muye asked, lowering his head.
Leng Ruoli's lips carried a smile. "You're handsome."
