Chapter 44: I Was Afraid You'd Be Cold, So...
"Boss Cutie."
"This is a silk quilt I had someone custom-make. The cold front's coming tonight and I was worried you'd be cold." Leng Ruoli's pretty face appeared, her big eyes curving into crescents, full of affection for Jiang Muye.
Jiang Muye was surprised. He had never imagined Leng Ruoli would be so thorough, even preparing this for him.
He really was short on a winter quilt; the one he had now was a bit thin.
"Thanks. Let me pay you for it," Jiang Muye said to Leng Ruoli. Her red lips curved slightly, and she answered in an utterly serious tone, "I'm not short on money at all. If you feel awkward about it, you can take me out for mango tangyuan tomorrow."
It wasn't that Leng Ruoli especially liked mango tangyuan.
It was just that Jiang Muye treating her to it would not only save money — most importantly, she'd get to eat it with him, which made her feel all warm inside.
"Okay," Jiang Muye agreed.
"Have you been drinking?"
Jiang Muye nodded. "Yeah, a little."
Leng Ruoli thought of something and said to him, "Wait here, I'll be right back."
Then Jiang Muye noticed Leng Ruoli darting off as fast as a little deer.
His face was full of confusion.
Where'd she go? Why'd she suddenly run off?
Jiang Muye, hugging the quilt, could only wait where he was.
He waited about three minutes or so before he heard a burst of hurried footsteps.
In the distance, Jiang Muye saw a familiar graceful figure.
She was running fast, long hair streaming, her tender red little face flushed pink from running, her chest bobbing especially fast with each stride — you could say it bounced and bounced — her long legs sweeping through the night, pink and white and fair, long, straight and slender, just like manga legs.
Soon Leng Ruoli appeared in front of Jiang Muye.
She was still a bit out of breath, hands braced on her knees, and it took her a while to recover.
But looking at Jiang Muye, the smile never faded from her eyes.
Her lips were like vivid flowers, and when she smiled the whole night sky seemed to light up.
Quickly, she handed Jiang Muye a box of yogurt. "If you've been drinking, don't drink too much. If you feel unwell, drink some yogurt. Yogurt protects your stomach lining — you had gastritis before, so you need to take good care of your health."
Jiang Muye was a little taken aback.
He had never imagined that Leng Ruoli had run off just now to buy yogurt.
He also caught a key piece of information.
"How do you know I had gastritis?" Jiang Muye asked her.
Leng Ruoli's cheeks suddenly flushed red. A bit embarrassed, she said, "I bought you stomach medicine before, so I know."
Everything clicked for Jiang Muye. Only now did he realize who the person who had been secretly slipping him medicine all this time was.
"The stomach medicine and cold medicine from before — it was all you?"
"Yeah…" Leng Ruoli bit her crimson lips and nodded shyly.
A warmth welled up in Jiang Muye's heart.
He had never imagined Leng Ruoli had been paying attention to him from so early on.
So she had been secretly crushing on him all along.
And he had no way of knowing?
Before Jiang Muye could snap back to his senses from the shock, Leng Ruoli said shyly, "Good night."
"Good night." Jiang Muye waved to her.
His heart felt heavy now, filled with an indescribable fluttering.
He had never imagined that all of this had started even earlier than he thought, and that Leng Ruoli's feelings for him ran so deep.
He had actually never noticed Leng Ruoli before. It seemed he had poured his whole heart into Xia Xiran.
So he had missed quite a few sights along the way.
He watched as Leng Ruoli ran off especially cheerfully, glancing back every so often, in a wonderful mood.
Jiang Muye couldn't help but shout, "Watch where you're going — don't bump your head again like last time."
Leng Ruoli's face instantly flushed with embarrassment, and she hurried off even faster.
Last time had clearly been an accident, but she never imagined Jiang Muye would remember it so clearly.
Mmm, so embarrassing.
But she had a date booked for tomorrow — best of all if she could spend the whole day with Jiang Muye.
Nothing could be better.
After Jiang Muye watched that graceful figure disappear, he looked down at the quilt in his hands and couldn't help but laugh.
He had never imagined Leng Ruoli was such a meticulous girl.
Her gifts really were one of a kind.
First thing, and she gives him a silk quilt.
Carrying the thick quilt back to the dorm, Jiang Muye left all three roommates stunned.
"What's going on, did your quilt fall down? No wait, Muzi, your quilt wasn't this kind." Kai had spotted the quilt on Jiang Muye's bed.
Jiang Muye told it like it was. "Leng Ruoli gave it to me."
After hearing Jiang Muye's words, Kai and the others were dumbfounded.
They had never imagined it was a quilt from Leng Ruoli.
Little White Dove was thrilled. "Wow, the Cold Campus Belle gives such practical stuff! I thought she'd give you a sports car or something."
Jiang Muye said, "She wanted to give me a sports car, and a private jet too. I turned her down."
Jiang Muye said it so calmly, so indifferently, that all three roommates wondered if their ears were playing tricks on them.
"You're not joking, right? What you just said, is that for real?" Little White Dove was still a bit unsure.
Old He said, "It's definitely real. It's not like the Cold Campus Belle doesn't have the means. But I've really got to hand it to Muzi — you really aren't like other men, able to turn down a great beauty like the Cold Campus Belle and turn down a supercar too. If it were me, I'd take the beauty and the car."
Kai glared at Old He. "Have you forgotten Muzi's no slouch himself? He's an heir worth hundreds of millions now, he's got his own supercars, why would he be after the Cold Campus Belle's? But the Cold Campus Belle really is sincere, her heart's all in for Muzi. Before it was a sports car, now it's a quilt."
"A quilt is great — giving Muzi a whole lifetime, that hint, tsk tsk tsk." Little White Dove sighed enviously. "When will my Suya be this thoughtful, this gentle? I'd be over the moon."
Only after Little White Dove's reminder did Jiang Muye snap back to his senses and grasp the meaning in it.
His heart pounded.
My god, I got flirted with.
No wonder she'd been so shy when she gave him the quilt — so that was what it meant.
But Jiang Muye was a man who had seen big winds and great waves. Pretending to be calm, he set the quilt on his bed and tried it out.
The size was just right, and it really was quite warm.
Comfortable.
The material clearly was good quality; silk quilts really did sleep warm.
Jiang Muye was perfectly at ease — this gift had won his imperial heart.
Just then, a message came in on WeChat.
Jiang Muye saw it was from Leng Ruoli.
Leng Ruoli: 【Have you finished the yogurt?】
She'd also sent a well-behaved kitty sticker.
Jiang Muye instinctively pictured Leng Ruoli's expression, and it was pretty cute.
Jiang Muye: 【About to drink it.】
He took out the yogurt, instinctively took a sip, then thought of something and picked up his phone to take a selfie.
While Jiang Muye was taking his selfie, his three beastly roommates started howling.
"Wow, Muzi, taking a selfie! You handsome devil, who's it for?" Little White Dove said with a grin.
"Is it Campus Belle Xia, the Cold Campus Belle, or Campus Belle Mi?" Old He's expression was over the top.
Even the usually serious Kai got led astray: "Why not get our whole dorm in on it?" He even tried to jump into the frame.
But Jiang Muye got irritated.
"Hey hey hey, can't I take one for myself! Shameless, the lot of you — go eat your barbecue." Jiang Muye laughed and scolded.
His three beastly roommates chuckled and muttered a few words, then went back to their skewers and beer.
Only then did Jiang Muye take a photo of himself holding the yogurt and drinking it, and send it to Leng Ruoli.
No beauty filter — being handsome is just that brazen.
1%: 【Drank it.】
After Leng Ruoli saw the message on her phone, her little face went bright red.
In the photo, Jiang Muye had a long neck, fair skin, sword-like brows and starry eyes — extraordinarily handsome, making her heart flutter especially.
Thoughts of a certain wishful sort even swirled in Leng Ruoli's head, making her face burn even redder.
Without a shred of hesitation, she saved the selfie Jiang Muye had sent.
Soon, she set it as her wallpaper.
As long as Leng Ruoli opened her phone, she could see Jiang Muye.
To see the boy she liked every day — that was a kind of happiness.
***
In the dorm, Little White Dove's snoring rang out.
Little White Dove, Kai and Old He had drunk themselves silly, the three of them sprawled in their chairs every which way.
Kai was hugging Little White Dove's waist drunkenly, Little White Dove's stinky feet were dangling right by Old He's mouth, and Old He was even smacking his lips thinking it was something tasty.
Jiang Muye couldn't help but laugh out loud at the sight.
But his attention was quickly snatched away by a WeChat message.
Only then did he realize he and Leng Ruoli had opened the floodgates on WeChat, chatting about all sorts of things, and had been talking for several hours already.
It was the first time Jiang Muye had ever had the patience to chat with a girl for so long.
It was already lights-out time. Jiang Muye said to Leng Ruoli: 【Alright, it's really late. Time to sleep.】
Leng Ruoli: 【Good night. Don't forget the tangyuan you owe me.】
Jiang Muye couldn't help but smile. He replied: 【You little glutton, still thinking about it. Fine, I won't forget.】
Leng Ruoli: 【Okay, see you tomorrow~ Don't stay up late, go to bed early, okay.】
Jiang Muye's heart felt warm. He replied: 【I will. You too. Good night.】
After saying good night to Leng Ruoli and just setting down his phone, he heard another alert from it.
The corner of his mouth lifted.
Must be Leng Ruoli again.
Didn't she say she was going to sleep?
Jiang Muye picked up his phone, only to find it wasn't a message from Leng Ruoli, but a friend request.
