Boss Cutie
Previously, Xiang Shan had always kept her at a distance, and she’d had no means of getting into her heart, which had left Leng Ruoli utterly miserable. Many times, she’d wondered whether her mommy even loved her.
But now her mommy was clearly more cheerful than she had been in the past. Was this the power of love?
So falling in love really was wonderful. It seemed the person her mommy liked had genuinely changed her quite a bit.
Leng Ruoli took the green dress and went to change into it. It suited her perfectly, as if it had been tailor-made for her — it looked wonderful, cinched at the waist to accentuate her long legs, and it would look even better paired with a fox-fur coat.
“Mom, just this one,” Leng Ruoli said happily, showing off the clothes she was wearing to Xiang Shan.
“Alright, then let’s pay by card.” Xiang Shan took a card from her bag and handed it to the sales assistant.
Now Leng Ruoli grew anxious. “Mom, let me pay for it.”
“I’m your mommy, so what’s wrong with buying you a piece of clothing? I haven’t bought you much in the past, not as much as your daddy, but that doesn’t mean I play favorites.” Xiang Shan smiled faintly. “Besides, I can’t have you footing the bill. You still have to come with me to meet someone, so I have to give you a little something in return.”
Leng Ruoli happily linked her arm through Xiang Shan’s. “Thank you~ Mom!”
Xiang Shan gently stroked Leng Ruoli’s hair.
Although they hadn’t seen each other for many years and she had always been busy with work, Leng Ruoli was, after all, a piece of flesh that had fallen from her own body — especially after that tragic, unbearable thing had happened back then. She had always owed her daughter.
A trace of tenderness came into Leng Ruoli’s eyes as she comfortably enjoyed this long-lost motherly love.
After shopping with her mommy for a long while, they bought a mountain of things. Of course, Leng Ruoli and Xiang Shan didn’t have to carry any of it — there were secretaries on hand to carry the bags and accompany them as they shopped.
Seeing that the agreed time was almost upon them, Xiang Shan reminded Leng Ruoli, “Alright, we can set off now. It’s about time.”
Leng Ruoli gave a mischievous smile. “Mom, do you really want me to come with you? Aren’t you afraid I’ll be a third wheel for the two of you?”
Xiang Shan merely shrugged carelessly. “What kind of third wheel could you be? I don’t care about that at all. Of course, if you can act as the glue between us, I’d be delighted.”
Leng Ruoli nodded and said to Xiang Shan, “Mom, don’t worry. Leave this to me — I’ll do everything I can to help you.”
After hearing Leng Ruoli’s words, Xiang Shan felt reassured.
If she handled it herself, she could naturally pull it off, but having an extra helper was naturally even better — the higher the odds of success, the better.
So Xiang Shan applied some light makeup, and then went with Leng Ruoli to the café.
Xiang Shan was still touching up her makeup with a cushion compact, while Leng Ruoli sat beside her, propping up her chin and watching with a smile.
“What’s wrong? Why are you staring at me?” Xiang Shan laughed.
Leng Ruoli leaned against Xiang Shan’s shoulder. “I just think it’s so wonderful to have a mom.”
In the past, she had always longed for such a warm scene. Now she had finally gotten her wish.
Xiang Shan rubbed Leng Ruoli’s hair and said with some guilt, “I’m truly sorry. All these years I haven’t fulfilled my duty as a good mother, and I’ve made you suffer quite a bit. This is what I owe you — from now on, whatever request you have, just ask.”
“Really? Then I really do have a request.” Seeing hope, Leng Ruoli’s eyes instantly lit up.
“Mm, tell me, what is it?” Xiang Shan asked her daughter.
Leng Ruoli thought of Jiang Muye, and her little face grew very shy. With a sweet smile, she said to Xiang Shan, “Mom, I have a boyfriend. I want to get married.”
Xiang Shan, who had just been gazing at Leng Ruoli with loving eyes, instantly wiped the smile from her face.
“You want to get married?”
Seeing that Xiang Shan’s tone had changed, Leng Ruoli felt somewhat uneasy, but she still honestly said to Xiang Shan, “Yes, I want to get married. I’ve already decided and won’t change my mind — even if you don’t agree, Mom, I’ll still get married.”
Xiang Shan snapped the compact shut with a loud click, which gave Leng Ruoli a start. She watched as Xiang Shan’s expression turned very ugly.
“You’re just notifying me, not asking for my opinion.” Xiang Shan pressed her red lips tightly together.
Leng Ruoli lowered her eyes, and her eye sockets grew slightly red. “Mom, when you brought me to meet the person you like, weren’t you also just notifying me? I’m not opposed to your relationship, and I hope you can respect me too.”
Her attitude was very firm. “No matter what you do, I won’t separate from my boyfriend. I like him very much, and I’ve decided to be with him for the rest of my life.”
Xiang Shan stared straight at Leng Ruoli, then the corner of her mouth curved up. “Why do you think I’d oppose the two of you?”
After hearing Xiang Shan’s words, Leng Ruoli was stunned. “Huh?”
“You getting married is a good thing. Compared to you being lonely for the rest of your life, having someone who can take care of you in our place is wonderful.” The corners of Xiang Shan’s eyes curved gently. “Especially since you’ve found someone you can entrust your life to — that makes me even happier. Not everyone in this world is lucky enough to find someone they want to marry.”
After hearing Xiang Shan’s gentle voice, Leng Ruoli’s eyes shone.
She was overjoyed, and immediately threw herself into Xiang Shan’s arms, unable to control the excited trembling of her heartbeat.
“Mom, you really agree to me getting married?” Leng Ruoli still felt as if she were dreaming.
This was a little too smooth.
“Yes.” Xiang Shan nodded. “I never imagined my daughter would be getting married so soon. Time really does pass too fast — you were so tiny before. Ah, I really can’t bear to let you go.”
Leng Ruoli smiled bashfully. “I’m going off to get married, it’s not like anything else. There’s nothing you can’t bear to part with — if you miss me, you can come find me, I won’t refuse to see you.”
Xiang Shan stroked Leng Ruoli’s soft, thick black hair and said with a smile, “Alright. But you have to promise me one thing.”
“What?” Leng Ruoli was very curious.
“Don’t have children within three years.” Xiang Shan stared intently at Leng Ruoli.
Leng Ruoli was stunned. “Why?”
She’d already agreed to their marriage, so why wouldn’t she allow her to have children within the marriage? This was simply baffling.
“I just don’t want you to regret it, that’s all. Besides, having a child so soon, I’m afraid you won’t even have a chance to change your mind.” At heart, Xiang Shan loved children. Getting married was fine — she was just afraid her daughter wouldn’t be able to turn back.
If, after the honeymoon period passed, the two of them fell out of love, how would her daughter’s future be guaranteed?
Xiang Shan’s worries were all seen clearly by Leng Ruoli.
She knew Xiang Shan’s love for her was rather reserved, so much so that her heart was now filled with mixed feelings.
So Mom doesn’t not love me — she just keeps it in her heart.
“Mom, I can’t listen to you. I want to have a child with him. No matter what the outcome is, I won’t regret it, and I believe I won’t need to change my mind — I can keep walking with him forever and ever.” When Leng Ruoli said this, her eyes were glowing with radiance.
