Chapter 46: The Clash of Two Goddesses
Boss Cutie
Compared to the calm Leng Ruoli, Xia Xiran was rather absent-minded.
She wasn't here to study at all. She had long since passed tests for twenty certificates, and knew the knowledge in the books inside and out.
She didn't need to come to the library either. Even in her dorm, she could study just fine.
The reason she came here was that her real purpose lay elsewhere.
There was only one goal.
The boy she liked.
Even Xia Xiran herself felt a little uncertain. She had no way of knowing whether he would show up.
Xia Xiran clutched at her skirt, waiting nervously, when a familiar figure suddenly appeared in her field of vision.
His face was handsome, he was very tall, and he dressed cleanly and generously, a single-shoulder bag slung coolly over his shoulder. He was wearing nothing but a black down jacket, yet he carried it off with the presence and handsomeness of a top star.
The moment he appeared, everyone became the backdrop behind him.
He seemed to be searching for something, and gradually his dark eyes looked over.
When his gaze met Xia Xiran's, she felt a little flutter of excitement.
Her smile was like a flower.
He had finally come.
Her beloved—
Jiang Muye was already walking toward her.
Xia Xiran bit her lip shyly. She couldn't wait to pull out the seat beside her for Jiang Muye.
She had reserved it for him early on, deliberately placing her things on it for fear someone else would take it.
Xia Xiran lifted her head, full of confidence. She felt certain Jiang Muye would sit down.
But to her surprise, his tall figure swept right past her.
The smile that had been raised high on Xia Xiran's lips suddenly froze there.
She stared in astonishment as Jiang Muye pulled out a chair and sat down beside Leng Ruoli.
His magnetic voice rang out. "Sorry to keep you waiting."
Xia Xiran realized that the person he was looking at wasn't her, but Leng Ruoli!
Leng Ruoli shook her head, her face flushed red. "No, I only just notified you. You came very quickly."
She subconsciously handed the coffee steeping in her thermos to Jiang Muye and said shyly, "Try it and see if it tastes good. This is freshly ground coffee I made for you."
Leng Ruoli had gotten up at six.
Studying, after all, required a lot of energy, and reading books for a long time made one sleepy, so Leng Ruoli had thought of making coffee for Jiang Muye.
It was Leng Ruoli's first time learning to make freshly ground coffee, and the process had taken quite a bit of time. There had been failures, but fortunately slow work produces fine results—Leng Ruoli had succeeded on her final attempt, and the coffee she made tasted very good.
She just didn't know whether it would suit Jiang Muye's taste.
On the way over, Leng Ruoli had kept worrying it would get cold, so she had pressed the thermos to her chest and even jogged the whole way.
Fortunately, the coffee was still steaming hot and hadn't gone cold.
Leng Ruoli had waited at the library entrance very early. While she was blowing on her hands from the cold, she had seen Xia Xiran appear.
She had never imagined Xia Xiran would also show up at the library.
But Leng Ruoli wasn't backing down in the slightest.
Even if she was here, it couldn't affect anything.
Leng Ruoli had immediately started grabbing seats, but she hadn't expected that by the time she sat down, Xia Xiran was already sitting across from her.
Naturally, Leng Ruoli didn't care about Xia Xiran.
But she was very afraid Jiang Muye would mind.
After all, Xia Xiran had hurt Jiang Muye so badly before, and Leng Ruoli didn't want Xia Xiran appearing too much in Jiang Muye's life.
What girl liked having her man in excessive contact with his first love?
But when Leng Ruoli was about to change seats, she found all the other seats were taken.
She had made plans with Jiang Muye, and she couldn't very well let him come all this way only to be disappointed, so Leng Ruoli could only hold her ground against Xia Xiran.
Leng Ruoli asked Jiang Muye softly, "Should we leave? There's actually a study room that's very quiet too."
She cared a great deal about Jiang Muye's feelings.
Jiang Muye, however, said calmly, "It's fine." He opened the thermos, and a pleasant aroma of coffee wafted out.
"It smells great." Jiang Muye smiled at Leng Ruoli.
"Okay." Leng Ruoli urged him on shyly. "Then drink it quickly."
Xia Xiran, unwilling to be outdone, began to hold out her milk tea to Jiang Muye and said, "One serving of Cocoa Ballet, specially ordered for you. I added boba and grass jelly, hot, thirty percent sugar."
Xia Xiran had specifically asked Jiang Muye's roommates to find out his tastes, so the flavor shouldn't be wrong.
Jiang Muye looked at Xia Xiran, who was gazing at him nervously, then at the milk tea in her hand. His brows furrowed slightly, and he said, "No need."
"Why?" Xia Xiran blurted out in surprise. "Isn't this your favorite flavor?"
"It is my favorite flavor, but I'll buy it myself." Jiang Muye paused. "And I won't wait for someone else to give it to me."
He was long past being that foolish kid who wouldn't turn back until he hit a wall.
Much less would he stand dumbly in place, waiting, watching her walk forward without ever looking back.
He too would learn to walk alone, to hobble back along the road he had battered himself bloody on. It would hurt, he would cry, but he had learned to lick his own wounds.
By the time all his scars had scabbed over, it was too late for her to come back and say she wanted to heal him. And there was no need for that, is there?
【Congratulations, Host, on rejecting Xia Xiran's milk tea. Grit Points +200. Rewarding you 20 Study Points. May you become a top student soon.】
Jiang Muye was rather surprised.
Finally, it was increasing his Study Points. Right now, that was exactly what he needed most.
Jiang Muye lowered his head and looked at his English book.
My god, he could understand several of them now. It was no longer like chewing on white wax, not even knowing how to pronounce a single word, let alone knowing what it meant.
While Jiang Muye was marveling, Xia Xiran bit her lip until it turned white. Her eyes were wet and she clutched tightly at her skirt.
After seeing Jiang Muye reject Xia Xiran, Leng Ruoli felt not even a trace of secret delight.
Instead, her heart ached for him.
It must have been incredibly difficult for Jiang Muye to make that decision. After all, his current composure must have been bought through countless rounds of pain.
"I'll give you my e-reader. It's an ink screen, so it won't hurt your eyes. Here's an English follow-along pen—wherever you don't understand, just tap there. These are earphones. If there's anything you don't understand, you can ask me." Leng Ruoli gently moved the items in front of Jiang Muye, her voice filled with concern.
What Leng Ruoli gave him truly solved his urgent problem.
It was exactly what Jiang Muye needed.
Jiang Muye said thank you in delight.
As for Xia Xiran, looking at it all was obscure and hard to understand, and how she wished Jiang Muye would be a little warmer to her too.
But she didn't give up. She quickly rallied herself and began handing all the books and notes placed beside her to Jiang Muye, saying, "These are the key points I marked out, along with my English notes. They're all very useful. You can take a good look."
This move immediately drew everyone's envy.
Everyone wanted to pass the English CET-4. After all, how hard was the English CET-4?
Yet now Xia Xiran was actually willing to lend out her notes.
The rumored notes Xia Xiran made were extremely clear and comprehensive, and Xia Xiran was a top student who predicted exam questions very accurately.
Whoever could copy her notes would mostly not fail, and would certainly pass smoothly.
But Xia Xiran never lent them out. Aside from a few close friends who had seen them, no one could borrow her notes. This time, Xia Xiran was actually taking them out for Jiang Muye to see.
How many people wanted to crane their necks for a look, wanting a few more points.
But Jiang Muye never once opened them.
This made everyone anxious.
Eldest Brother, just open it and let everyone see! We want to peek at the contents too.
But who would have thought Jiang Muye would directly return the book and notes to Xia Xiran, saying, "No, I'll just study independently on my own."
System notification: 【Congratulations, Host, on rejecting Xia Xiran's notes. Obtained 200 Grit Points, obtained one million RMB.】
Jiang Muye's words shocked everyone.
A great beauty had worked hard on her notes, and now she was giving them to him for reference. Not only did he not even look at them, he even returned them to Campus Belle Xia!
That was a bit too heartless!
