"I didn't get on the plane. I'm the only passenger who didn't board," Jiang Muye told Leng Ruoli solemnly.
When Leng Ruoli heard Jiang Muye's words, she trembled. She found it too incredible.
The sole survivor was actually Jiang Muye!
"How can that be? Weren't you going to get on the plane at the time?" Leng Ruoli asked anxiously.
Jiang Muye told Leng Ruoli, "I was going to board, but some unexpected situation came up. My phone was stolen."
But when it came time to check his health code, Jiang Muye realized his phone was gone.
It must have been swiped by a thief.
After all, a phone was pretty important when heading abroad, so Jiang Muye went to deal with the phone situation for the time being, planning to get a new SIM card once he got back home.
But he had never imagined he wouldn't board the plane.
As a result, that flight ran into trouble and went down in the deep sea. There were no survivors.
Only then did Jiang Muye realize that the System had caused the thief to take his phone, all to delay him from boarding that doomed flight.
If not for the System, the current Jiang Muye would have long since plunged into the seabed along with the plane, dead and gone.
So after he learned of the crash, he immediately contacted Leng Ruoli.
He heard Leng Ruoli's sobs through the phone, which made him terribly anxious. "Why are you crying? I'm fine right now, stop crying."
Yet Leng Ruoli still burst into loud wailing.
Each sob tore at Jiang Muye's heart.
"My fault, stop crying? Ruoli, I'll be right back." Jiang Muye did his best to soothe Leng Ruoli's emotions.
"You great big bastard!" Leng Ruoli roared, her voice choked with tears. "Do you know how worried I was? I was afraid you'd died, afraid you'd never come back."
"You said you'd bring me a gift. I was afraid you'd never be able to give me that gift your whole life. Boohoo, the baby and I were waiting for you to come back, you bastard, you really scared us to death!"
Amid Leng Ruoli's sobs, Jiang Muye latched onto one key point.
"Baby?"
"Yes, I'm pregnant with your child, it's already over a month now! Boohoo, the baby almost lost its daddy. Do you want me to be a single mother!" Leng Ruoli choked out.
Jiang Muye was dumbstruck. "I'm… going to be a dad?"
"Yes, you're going to be a dad! This time you've gone and done it. I'm going to punish you by keeping you by my side forever, you can't leave me!" Leng Ruoli's eyes were red as she scolded Jiang Muye in a low voice.
Yet Jiang Muye was grinning like a fool. "Good, good, good, I couldn't ask for more!"
He was so happy!
He was actually going to be a dad! Talk about overtaking on the curve!
But to find out the news under these circumstances was truly unbelievable.
"Great big bastard!" Leng Ruoli inhaled. "You should've called me earlier. I wanted to tell you this good news from the very beginning, but then this had to happen."
"My fault! I didn't think it through. I'll be right back now!" Jiang Muye began to repent and apologize to Leng Ruoli.
He wasn't angry at all. In fact, he was happy.
And he could especially understand Leng Ruoli's feelings and her temper. After all, if it were him, he'd probably be angry too.
The angrier Leng Ruoli got, the more it proved she cared about him.
The more she scolded him, the more delighted Jiang Muye felt inside.
Seeing his good attitude, Leng Ruoli's tone softened quite a bit. "No need. Don't you see what time it is? It's the middle of the night."
"Then I'll take the earliest flight back!" Jiang Muye could hardly contain his excitement.
"No need. Knowing you're still alive is enough for me now. You still need to be careful about your safety. Sleep a little longer and take a flight back in the morning." Leng Ruoli had no other wishes now. She just wanted Jiang Muye to come home safe and sound.
Her every word landed in Jiang Muye's heart, and he nodded. "Alright, I'll listen to you."
So he said, but Jiang Muye had other plans in mind.
"I want to video call so I can see you," Leng Ruoli demanded.
"Okay." Jiang Muye didn't refuse, and so he started a video call with Leng Ruoli.
He saw Leng Ruoli lying in bed, her eyes red, her hair somewhat disheveled, but still so beautiful.
She was just a bit more exhausted than before, and somewhat haggard.
But it didn't affect the beauty in Jiang Muye's heart.
Seeing her made Jiang Muye feel even more guilty.
He should have contacted Leng Ruoli as soon as he learned what happened, so she wouldn't have worried so much.
But it wasn't long ago that he'd found out about the crash either.
"Baby, I'm sorry." Jiang Muye soothed Leng Ruoli's emotions.
Leng Ruoli's eyes were slightly red. She saw Jiang Muye's handsome face on the other end, his deep, sharply defined features identical to her memory, more or less the same.
Seeing him, her heart returned to peace.
She propped up a smile and faced Jiang Muye. "It's so good that you're okay!"
As Leng Ruoli spoke, scalding tears fell, tears of joy.
Jiang Muye panicked instead. "Don't cry, you've still got a baby in your belly."
"Great big dummy! The baby is nowhere near as important as you. Do you know how worried I was! If not for this child, if you'd really been in trouble, I'm afraid I couldn't have held on either." Leng Ruoli choked out.
Even through the phone screen, Jiang Muye could feel Leng Ruoli's feelings.
He coaxed Leng Ruoli, saying, "There, there, don't be sad. It's my fault. I'm fine now, and I'll be back once it's daytime."
Hearing Jiang Muye's words, Leng Ruoli felt greatly reassured. "Mm, okay."
"It's very late, remember to sleep, got it?" Jiang Muye soothed Leng Ruoli's emotions. "You're two people now, nothing can happen to you."
"If you're fine, then I'm fine." A smile Leng Ruoli hadn't worn in a long time appeared at the corner of her mouth.
"Good. It's very late, so you can go to sleep now, otherwise I'll worry."
Jiang Muye knew Leng Ruoli was now over a month pregnant. This was the most unstable period. If anything happened to the baby and caused Leng Ruoli's health to suffer, what would he do?
Faced with Jiang Muye's gentle comfort, Leng Ruoli was very obedient. "Alright, I'll listen to you."
The corner of Jiang Muye's mouth curved into a shallow arc. Especially seeing Leng Ruoli cooperate with him so well, the gloom that had been lingering in Jiang Muye's heart vanished entirely.
"Then I'll stop chatting with you. Go to sleep." Jiang Muye said, about to hang up.
But Leng Ruoli said hurriedly, "Can you not hang up? I want to stay connected the whole time, then I'll feel at ease."
After all, such a mix-up had happened, and Leng Ruoli still felt a bit uneasy.
She really didn't want to see anything happen to Jiang Muye. As long as he was under her watchful eye, nothing would happen, right?
Jiang Muye could tell Leng Ruoli had no sense of security, and he didn't mind. He comforted Leng Ruoli, saying, "Alright, I'll listen to you and not hang up, but you have to go to sleep early."
