Chapter 728: Father Leng Is Leaving
"Things will get better. Give it time," Father Leng said as he patted Xiang Shan on the shoulder.
Then, under Xiang Shan's reluctant gaze, Father Leng got into the car.
Xiang Shan watched the car drive away, her lips quivering. In the end, she couldn't even cry out a single word, and could only let the tears stream from her eyes.
No amount of regret could change anything now.
Three days later, Father Leng was already preparing to fly back to M Country to continue his business.
The day before, when Leng Ruoli heard the news of Father Leng's departure, she sobbed uncontrollably. "Woo woo woo, Dad, you're leaving so soon! Can't you stay a little longer?"
"My main business is all in M Country, so I have to go back. Besides, your grandmother's health means I should get back as soon as possible to look after her. For my precious daughter's sake, I've already stayed in the country for a very long time."
Father Leng was also reluctant to leave his daughter, but he knew very well that a married daughter was like water spilled out.
Now that his daughter had grown up, she would naturally be with her husband. How could she possibly be hanging around with her old father every few days?
"Dad, I'll bring her to see you often," Jiang Muye said sincerely to Father Leng.
Father Leng said seriously, "Don't bring her back often. She's pregnant now, and the travel will be too much for her. What if something happens? If my daughter just gives me a call, I'll fly right back. Transportation is very convenient these days anyway."
Leng Ruoli nodded with tears in her eyes. "Okay, then you have to come back when I give birth."
"I'll definitely come back. I want to see my grandchild too!" Father Leng replied with a smile.
"Alright, then I'll be waiting for you." Leng Ruoli gazed at Father Leng reluctantly.
Jiang Muye rubbed Leng Ruoli's shoulder and promised Father Leng, "Uncle, don't worry. Ruoli and I are married now, so I treat her completely as family. Whatever she needs, I'll prepare it for her and take good care of her."
"You're a responsible young man. I believe you'll take care of her. It's just that she's pregnant now and everything needs to be handled with care. I'll arrange for the best confinement nanny to come over," Father Leng said, still worrying about his daughter.
"Dad, it's better to personally interview the confinement nanny to make sure she's reliable. Otherwise, even the best one might not work out if you can't get along with her," Leng Ruoli replied with a smile.
"Alright, then I'll leave such an important matter to my good son-in-law. Having him handle the confinement nanny's work should be reliable too, and he can get along well with her," Father Leng joked.
Hearing this, Jiang Muye didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Uncle, you're giving me too much credit. I really can't do the confinement nanny's job, but I'll definitely be careful and cautious, and choose the nanny well."
"Good." Father Leng felt relieved. Now that his daughter had a husband, he didn't need to busy himself as an old father anymore.
But why did he feel like he was missing something, a bit empty inside?
It felt like he wasn't as needed by his daughter anymore. Ah, this was a stage every father had to endure.
"What about Mom? Does she know you're leaving?" Leng Ruoli asked.
"She doesn't know yet," Father Leng said to Leng Ruoli. "I haven't told her yet."
"Why not tell her? If she finds out you kept it from her and left without saying goodbye, she'd definitely be very sad." Leng Ruoli didn't quite understand.
Jiang Muye shared Leng Ruoli's view. "Say something to Mom."
Father Leng lowered his eyelids. "Sometimes it's better not to say anything than to say it. I'm afraid if I tell her, it'll be like cutting through mud and leaving it still clinging to us—the more we drag it out, the messier it gets. Just leaving directly is cleaner."
He paused for a moment. "We're all adults now, and we have to consider the big picture. We're no longer at the age where we can act recklessly. Leaving quietly is better for her and for me."
Leng Ruoli's eyes were full of sorrow. She still couldn't quite understand what her father meant.
After Father Leng said his goodbyes, Leng Ruoli lowered her delicate face, her mood very low.
Seeing this, Jiang Muye peeled a mango for her and handed it to her. "Here, have some of your favorite mango. It's really sweet."
Leng Ruoli shook her head and said to Jiang Muye, "I don't feel like eating."
She unconsciously leaned against Jiang Muye's shoulder. "I really want my parents to get back together. I'm not a child anymore. I can tell that Dad still has feelings for her, so why can't they be together?"
"Feelings are complicated to begin with. Not everyone can be as lucky as us and end up together. That also shows just how fortunate and rare it is for two people who love each other to finally be together, which makes us cherish each other even more." Jiang Muye gazed at Leng Ruoli sincerely.
Leng Ruoli's voice choked up a little. "I finally saw Mom and Dad getting along, and now that hope has fallen through."
"Don't cry. Your mouth is for eating mangoes." Jiang Muye stuffed the mango into Leng Ruoli's mouth. "I know what you're thinking, but feelings are the one thing you can't force. Even if we really try to play matchmaker for them, whether it works out is still up to them."
The corners of Leng Ruoli's lips barely managed a twitch.
Although she was disappointed, she had already tried her best. If things still couldn't develop the way she imagined, then there was nothing anyone could do about it.
Jiang Muye noticed that Leng Ruoli had been weighed down with worries these past two days.
Especially when they saw Father Leng off at the airport, she was even more reluctant to part.
【Check-in detected at Host's location. Reward: Host gains the ability to freeze time within a certain region.】
Jiang Muye understood that it was a time-pausing function, incredibly badass.
But he had no interest in figuring out how to use the skill. His whole heart was focused on his wife.
When Leng Ruoli watched Father Leng go through the ticket check, her eyes immediately became misty. She buried her head in Jiang Muye's chest. "My dad's gone."
"It's fine. I'm not leaving. I'm right here with you." Jiang Muye patted Leng Ruoli's little head. "This isn't a farewell, just a temporary goodbye. He'll be back to see you soon."
"But I know that'll take a while. The one thing I can't stand is partings. But aren't all humans in this world just constantly accepting farewells and welcoming new arrivals?" Leng Ruoli sighed.
Jiang Muye nodded and kissed Leng Ruoli's forehead. "Exactly. Soon you'll be welcoming the birth of two little babies, and in the future you'll meet so many more people."
A curve spread across Leng Ruoli's lips. She nodded at Jiang Muye, and the haze that had been lingering in her heart gradually dissipated.
"Actually, there's still one thing on my mind. I've been struggling with whether to do it or not."
After hearing Leng Ruoli mention it, Jiang Muye immediately understood what she meant. "You're talking about whether or not to tell Mom that Dad left."
Leng Ruoli nodded and said to Jiang Muye very seriously, "I'm afraid I'll regret not saying it, afraid my mom will regret it. The two of them are just missing one chance to make up—one person is hiding something and not saying it, the other is putting on a front and not listening."
