Chapter 737: A Hopeful Mentality
"Darling's home, so of course I have to get back early," Jiang Muye said seriously. "From now on, if you want anything fancy, you come to me or the servants. Hear me?"
"Fine. I just wanted to read. How old am I now? What could possibly happen?" Leng Ruoli smiled.
Jiang Muye flicked her nose. "No matter what, I won't allow you to do anything that dangerous, and you can't have the slightest bit of luck about it either. Understand?"
Seeing how serious he looked, Leng Ruoli nodded obediently. "Alright, I'll listen to you."
Only then did Jiang Muye nod in satisfaction.
"I bought the cherries you wanted to eat. I'll go wash them for you." Jiang Muye's mind was entirely on his darling.
Leng Ruoli immediately pressed her hands to his face and kissed him on the mouth. "Hubby's the best!"
"Heh heh, sweeter than the cherries. I'm the one who profited!" Jiang Muye was thoroughly content.
After reluctantly setting her down, he hurried off to wash some cherries.
They sat in the rocking chair in the living room. She rested her head on his lap, her lovely body curled up snugly, and she ate the cherries he fed her with great satisfaction.
Jiang Muye stared at her fixedly, catching the pits for her.
"Hubby, don't just watch me eat. Have some yourself." A curve rippled across Leng Ruoli's lips as she gave him a sweet smile.
"Feed me one," Jiang Muye said, smiling at her.
Leng Ruoli immediately popped a cherry into his mouth.
Jiang Muye savored it. "Spring cherries really are better than summer ones. There's a reason the expensive ones cost more."
"Time really does fly. In the blink of an eye, a whole year's about to pass." Leng Ruoli looked at the cherry blossom tree outside the window. "The cherry blossoms are all blooming now."
"Don't I know it. Time goes so fast when I'm with you. But fast time has its downsides too—people always end up parting. Once school starts, Little White Dove will be leaving, and who knows when Sheng Xinyi, that little junior, will be able to come back even once. Another year or so and the brothers will all be going their separate ways too." A trace of sorrow filled Jiang Muye's eyes.
Earlier, Jiang Muye had thought it was a good thing to bring all his brothers into the family company and get rich together. But later he'd discovered that his brothers all had ideas of their own.
Old He, for instance, wanted to be a modeler and get into Goose Factory.
Rather than becoming a concept artist, Kai wanted to be an interior designer. His wish was to buy a big house as soon as possible and then fulfill his own decoration dream.
As for Little White Dove, she was going abroad to study painting together with Sheng Xinyi, that little junior.
In the blink of an eye, they all had their own ideas and plans, gradually drifting away from their original imaginings and drawing closer to reality.
"Little White Dove isn't gone for good. It's only a temporary parting. Besides, people are close these days—there's chat software, so you can talk whenever you want to. You don't have to worry about a thing," Leng Ruoli said, a pure light shining in her eyes.
Jiang Muye's lips twisted with some effort. "I hope so. That we can stay close right to the end, instead of drifting apart as we go."
Friends who'd once told each other everything in high school had slowly grown distant because their circles were different now.
It wasn't that they were no longer friends. It was just that they had less and less to talk about.
Leng Ruoli could tell Jiang Muye was feeling down, so she blurted out, "Do you have pregnancy depression too?"
That one sentence immediately made Jiang Muye burst out laughing, and his foul mood vanished at once. "What would I do with a thing like that? I'm a man!"
"But lots of men get pregnancy depression easily too." Leng Ruoli unconsciously stroked his cheek. "The future's still far away. Who knows what it'll turn into. Let's not think about what might happen—let's just think about what we still have."
Leng Ruoli's gentle, lovely face was right there before his eyes.
So tender, it made Jiang Muye deeply enamored. He could never tire of looking at it.
"You still have me, and I still have you. We're one body, we won't be separated. And there's the child in our bellies too. One day the child will leave, sure, but at least they'll grow up with us for a while." Leng Ruoli comforted Jiang Muye softly.
Hearing her gentle yet firm voice, a warm strength welled up in Jiang Muye's heart.
"Right. We're all one family anyway. We can't be torn apart. We lean on each other. I'm the unkillable Jiang Muye. Be optimistic. What am I doing thinking about all that, making it sound like I'm having a life-or-death parting with those brothers of mine!"
Jiang Muye didn't want those negative emotions interfering with him.
When had he started moaning over nothing? It must be that he'd eaten too much and gotten stuffed!
Leng Ruoli's lips curved up slightly. "That's right~! Cheer up!"
Jiang Muye couldn't help but knead her face and kiss her. Leng Ruoli's smile grew even brighter.
Cherry blossom petals drifted down one by one, and the days passed quickly.
Leng Ruoli's belly had grown. From its previous flatness, a slight curve could now be seen.
As a result, her old clothes no longer fit her well.
She planned to wear Jiang Muye's clothes to sleep in, since his clothes were very big.
They were perfect as pajamas.
Jiang Muye took a few pieces of clothing from the wardrobe and handed them to Leng Ruoli. "I've only worn these a few times. Try them and see if they're too big. These are already the smallest clothes in my wardrobe."
"Okay!"
Leng Ruoli answered with a smile, and Jiang Muye helped her roll up the top. Her pretty waistline was gone, replaced by a somewhat protruding belly.
But it was utterly adorable, so much so that Jiang Muye couldn't help wanting to kiss it.
He suppressed the urge and quickly helped her into the clothes.
Once they were on, Leng Ruoli smiled and said, "They're still a bit too big."
Indeed, they were too big. The length of his clothes reached all the way to Leng Ruoli's thighs—she could completely wear them as a dress.
And they were far too wide as well, completely covering her fair little hands.
Suddenly, she looked a bit like a child who'd secretly put on an adult's clothes.
Adorable, and a little comical too.
Jiang Muye laughed. "You're too tiny. Tomorrow I'll take you to buy maternity clothes. Here, let me roll up the sleeves for you. They're too long."
"Okay!" Leng Ruoli said playfully.
Jiang Muye rolled up the sleeves for her, all the way to her wrists.
Leng Ruoli smiled playfully. "It smells like you. So comfortable to wear."
She lowered her head and sniffed. "So soothing. When you're not by my side, it's like you're sleeping beside me."
Jiang Muye smiled. "Silly. What would I be doing away from your side if there's nothing going on? I'll be with you the whole time. A pregnant woman without her husband beside her is pretty pitiful, and I don't want my darling to become that pitiful."
