Chapter 146: Then I'll Spend a Billion
Leng Ruoli was eating a sandwich, looking at Jiang Muye in confusion. "What's wrong?"
Jiang Muye turned his phone toward Leng Ruoli. "Look, the hospital's calling. You didn't come home last night, so they probably didn't see you during morning check-in either."
Leng Ruoli's little face turned pink. "Oh right, Nurse Sister's probably going to nag again. I'll eat faster and head back early, then."
Leng Ruoli sped up her eating, and ended up choking.
When Jiang Muye saw, he handed her a cup of soy milk and chided, "What are you eating so fast for? Let her talk, I've got your back."
Leng Ruoli gave a goofy smile and instinctively drank the milk.
After seeing Leng Ruoli back to the hospital, Jiang Muye naturally had to endure a round of nagging from the nurse. The two who were being scolded together looked at each other, and even getting chewed out felt blissful.
Leng Ruoli watched a movie in the ward, while Jiang Muye went downstairs to buy some daily necessities.
Who would've thought that just as he was about to get on the elevator, he'd catch, in the refraction of the sunglasses of the guy next to him, a furtive figure lurking in a dark corner, holding a camera and secretly photographing him.
Well, well.
He'd caught them. So there really was someone secretly photographing him!
Jiang Muye's eyes instantly narrowed.
So when the elevator doors were about to open, Jiang Muye shot out like a cheetah.
His speed was incredibly fast, rushing over in the time it took a thunderclap to pass.
The man who had just been secretly photographing was startled. He tried a kip-up to run, but how could he be Jiang Muye's match?
Just as the man turned to flee, Jiang Muye violently tackled him to the ground.
Clang!
The DSLR camera crashed straight onto the floor.
The man who'd been tackled struggled with all his might, but felt a lethal attack—his arm was wrenched behind his back and yanked tight.
The man felt the youth's icy gaze on him.
Without a shred of hesitation, the other pressed his leg against the man's arm pinned behind his back, then clamped a hand around his neck, looking down at him from above.
It made the man shiver.
"Who are you?" What entered Jiang Muye's line of sight was an unfamiliar face.
A man in his thirties, ordinary-looking, dark-skinned, with a stubbly beard on his chin.
Jiang Muye saw the other's somewhat vexed expression, still struggling. "Let me go!"
But Jiang Muye had already caught the man—how could he possibly let him go so easily?
He tightened his grip on the man's neck a few degrees, questioning with a vicious air, "Why are you following me!"
Jiang Muye's bloodthirsty, sinister aura made the man deeply afraid, and before long he began to beg for mercy.
"Mmph mmph mmph, I… I'll talk…"
Jiang Muye watched the man coldly and released the hand gripping his neck. "Talk."
The man said awkwardly, "I'm a private detective."
"Detective…" Jiang Muye muttered, then his gaze sharpened like a shuttle as he demanded, "Who hired you?"
Jiang Muye figured he didn't have any enemies—no one would go to such lengths to hire a private detective to secretly photograph him.
The other was clearly in a difficult spot.
Jiang Muye smiled. "Fine, you don't have to talk. But following me is an invasion of my privacy, and I can call the police."
"Don't call the police, I really was wrong, I'll talk, won't I!" The private detective had originally wanted to keep some professional integrity, but now that Jiang Muye was threatening him like this, he quickly confessed.
After hearing the name the other blurted out, Jiang Muye's gaze turned intriguing.
…
The next day, at the school gate.
A stretch Rolls-Royce Phantom was parked across the street.
【Congratulations, Host, Check-in successful. You've earned 500,000 RMB.】The System's voice rang out.
Jiang Muye pressed down the brim of his baseball cap and walked forward coolly.
Just as he reached the car, a black-suited bodyguard had already helped open the door for him.
Jiang Muye cast his deep gaze over, and saw a middle-aged man sitting on the plush seat in the back row. Wrinkles were etched into his forehead, but aside from a few strands of graying hair at his temples hinting at age, he was still a vigorous and imposing figure.
Especially sitting there in his black suit—it was simply full force presence, at a glance the sitting posture of a boss.
"You're here," the other said coolly.
"Hello, Uncle." Jiang Muye nodded politely, then got into the car and sat across from the other's seat.
"I never imagined a kid like you could beat down the detective I sent, and even make him notify you that you wanted to see me." The middle-aged man leisurely took a sip of red wine, watching Jiang Muye meaningfully.
"Didn't you want to get to know me? Then I'll give Uncle the chance to get to know me now. Whatever questions you have, you can ask me." Jiang Muye looked straight at the other.
He wasn't cowed by the other's powerful aura.
The middle-aged man before him was Leng Ruoli's biological father, the CEO of the Leng Group.
And the private detective who'd been following and secretly photographing him during this time had been sent by Father Leng.
Father Leng had said on the phone earlier that he would return to the country to see him, but he hadn't expected him to come back so soon, and to bring such a special "welcoming gift."
Seeing Jiang Muye's unyielding manner, Father Leng chuckled. "You're an interesting kid. I'll ask you straight—can you tell the truth?"
"Why not?" Jiang Muye looked at Father Leng with arrogant pride. "I don't like lying."
Father Leng's gaze measured Jiang Muye deeply, then he asked in a playful tone, "Are you currently dating my daughter?"
"Yes." Jiang Muye was firm.
From Father Leng's attitude now, he was clearly dissatisfied with him.
Even if he wanted to break them apart, so what? Jiang Muye would still insist on being with Leng Ruoli. He would prove through his own actions that Leng Ruoli's choice of him was correct.
"You know I only have this one daughter."
"I know, so I'll treat her well," Jiang Muye answered with absolute certainty.
Father Leng looked at the resolute young man before him, then chuckled and pulled out a check, handing it to Jiang Muye.
"This is 100 million."
Jiang Muye had already seen the many zeros after the 1 on the check.
This figure really was absurd.
After all, how often does an ordinary person see 100 million? Jiang Muye had never imagined the clichéd melodrama from novels would actually happen.
Throw money at him to make him leave?
Unfortunately for him, he'd run into Jiang Muye—that wouldn't work.
Jiang Muye lifted his chin and, in a very certain, swaggering tone, said to Father Leng, "You offer 100 million, I'll offer you a billion! A billion to buy your acceptance of me, and for you not to break us apart!"
Since he was prepared to be with Leng Ruoli, he'd never thought of breaking up.
If that day ever came, it would have to be death.
The person he'd set his heart on—no matter how much money he was offered, he wouldn't give her up.
Money could be earned, but the feelings he lost—who could make up for that? Jiang Muye didn't want to do anything he'd regret for the rest of his life. He liked her, and that was that. Backing off when things got hard—that was something he couldn't do.
Father Leng was astonished.
Jiang Muye continued, "Uncle, your love for your daughter is deep, I understand. But I also hope you can understand that I genuinely like Ruoli. I not only want to date her, I want to marry her!"
